1978
Duran Duran formed by John Taylor and Nick Rhodes

1978-1980
Joined by Roger Taylor (whose arrival spurs John to switch from lead guitar to bass), Andy Taylor (from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne) and Simon Lebon (from London via Birmingham University Drama Department) form a close partnership with Birmingham club owners Paul and Michael Berrow, whose Tritec Organization becomes the band’s management company.

1980
Support slot on Hazel O’Connors’s Autumn UK Tour, followed By Worldwide recording deal with EMI Records.

1981
Release debut single "Planet Earth", produced by Colin Thurston, with video directed by Russell Mulcahy. First UK Headlining tour. Next two singles," Careless Memories" and Girls on Film" (with videos directed respectively by Perry Haines & Terry Jones, and Kevin Godly & Lol Creme) also taken from debut album "Duran Duran", produced by Colin Thurston and released in June. Fourth single "My Own Way" produced.

1982
Second Album "Rio", produced by Colin Thurston, released along with fifth single, "Hungry Like the Wolf", "Rio", singles videos ("Hungry Like the Wolf", "Save a Prayer" and "Rio") filmed in Sri Lanka and Antigua and directed by Russell Mulcahy.
World Tour April-December, Australia, Japan, USA, Canada, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Germany, Holland Belgium, France and Britain.

1983
Eighth single, "Is There Something I Should Know?", produced by Ian Little and Duran Duran enters UK enters UK chart at No 1 in March, Video Album released same month, including eleven tracks (the singles plus "Lonely in Your Nightmare" and "Nightboat" directed by Russell Mulcahy and "The Chauffeur" directed by Ian Emes). Duran Duran spend several months in the south of France. In June they fly to Montserrat to record their third album, "Seven and the Ragged Tiger" (produced by Alex Sadkin, Ian Little and Duran Duran). They return for a week in July to play two charity concerts in the UK. In August, they fly to Australia to complete recording the Album, film the video for their ninth single, "Union of the Snake" and start their second World Tour.
In December they fly back to Britain during the week their album enters the chart at No. 1, for the second leg of the tour, after their long absence from Britain, they are delighted to spend Christmas at home.
1984
Duran Duran start the New Year by going over to France to shoot the video for "New Moon on Monday" before flying out to Japan for the third leg of the tour. At the end of January they open the North American Tour in Calgary, Canada.
