Duran Duran - Live

It's about 8:15, and the arena is nearly full. Near the front of the stage are five fabulous clones of the band. These teenage boy decided that dressing up like the band would help them meet girls, and they were right! About 10 girls had gathered around to get their pictures taken and with the cute imitations, who looked like they were hoping the concert would never start. Unfortunately for these five, but to the joy of everyone else in the crowd, the concert begins with bang. As soon as John Taylor comes within sight of the audience, the screaming begins and gets progressively louder and louder. The whole scenario is almost parallel to the early Beetles-it practically doesn't matter what Duran Duran is singing; there's so much noise that no one could hear them anyway!

Even though they probably can't hear all of it, no one can say that the group delivers a shabby show. Duran Duran in concert are a fans dream come true, with hour-and-a-half sets including renovations of hits like "Rio", "Union of the Snake", "Girls on Film", and "Is There Something I Should Know?" They do like to give their audience the most for their money.
"I'm a Gemini, " explains Nick Rhodes seriously, "and I believe in immense detail." For this concert, they've added extra musicians including a a percussionist, back up singer and the sax player and added to their stage appearance with thousands of lights and Roman columns towards the back of the stage.
"We want to give ourselves a much bigger live sound, " smiles John. " It's also gives us the opportunity to bounce off other players."
In many ways this tour is also a dream come true for members of the band themselves. Early on, before anyone had ever heard of Duran Duran, the guys set up an imaginary itinerary they hoped to follow. John remembers, "we'd say, Hammersmith Odeon in London by 1982. Wembly Arena in 1983. Madison Square Garden in 1984. " The sold out shows at the twenty-thousand seat Madison Square Garden the New York this March completed their circle.

The evening ends with a second encore and every member of the audience singing along to "Save a Prayer." It certainly it is a fantastic show, but if you happen to you miss them this time around, don't worry. From the fans reactions alone, Duran Duran are sure to be around for a long time to come.
